The WVACDA Conference has been held in Charleston, WV for many years now and we would love you to come learn and create with us!
If you would like to register yourself for conference, there will be a link to register on the Annual Conference page here. While you are at conference, you are welcome to go to the interest sessions. If your county board office allows, you can even submit each session as an hour of Continuing Education! Sessions are anything from reading new or themed music, conducting tips, how to travel with choirs, and many other things pertaining to choral direction!
At the beginning of the school year, check in to the Conference Info page to see when to register! Do it as soon as you can for the discount, and to streamline your process!
If you would like to bring students to participate in the honor choirs, go to the respective choir page (see links in above section) and follow the instructions there. Write all the deadlines in on your classroom calendar so you don't miss any steps!
As soon as you get your allotment, call in to a hotel to reserve your rooms. We always have places that offer deals! This is also the perfect time to order music from www.jwpepper.com or www.kerrsmusic.com/contact.asp
As soon as you get music, START PRACTICING! This is often a 1-time opportunity for these kids. They are going to want to do this well! And when they are in a room with over 200 other prepared students, it will blow them away! It is worth the time.
At the Conference
The Thursday the conference starts, registration starts at noon. Be there between 12 and 12:30 to register, get name tags which will be your pass all week, and tshirts to wear back at school!
Eat before registration, because right after registration, rehearsal starts for your students, and sessions start for you!
The rehearsal space is right across the street from the mall, and a Wendy's. You are also a 15-minute walk to some very nice sit-down restaurants. Have your students bring money for meals!
After that, you can follow the schedule as given in the program you receive at registration.
On Friday evening you will have free time with your kids. Rehearsals end at 5pm that day, and you are welcome to take them to local eateries, and entertainment venues! Check out the Clay Center, Corridor G, and Kanawha City.
Saturday morning, they will have a dress rehearsal (not actually in concert attire) and will have time to eat and relax before the concert.
The concert is usually at 1pm, and singers are expected to remain in attendance through the other choirs as well.
Chamber Choir (10-12 grades) will wear choir robes from their school. If your school does not wear robes, you may borrow robes from a local church, or have them wear their formal concert wear.
Honor Choir (7-9 grades) will wear black pants/skirts with hose, black socks, black shoes, white blouse/button-up shirt. If a button-up shirt is worn, a black tie should be worn as well.
Collegiate Honor Choir will wear their black (or black and white) concert attire.
Once the concert is over, students are free to leave with their parents/teachers and the conference is done for another year!
$65.00 for current ACTIVE members and retired ACTIVE members on site $175 for non-member conference fee (including ACDA membership) $150 for retired non-member conference fee (including ACDA membership) $50 for student member (not in honor choir) $55 for student non-member (includes ACDA membership)
We are so glad you are going to be attending the WVACDA conference! We hope that you have everything you need, but if you do not, please feel free to contact us! Go to the contact us page, or contact any of the R&S Chairs!
